DIY: Flower Crown

I used the 4th of July as an excuse to do something I've always wanted to do: make my own flower crown. It was pretty easy to do, using Pinterest as inspiration. I found it much easier to make it up as I went along, so that's what I did.

  • ~25 gauge craft wire
  • Wire cutters/scissors that can cut through wire
  • Faux/plastic leaves (either the kind you can buy with silk flowers or a fake plant)
  • Freshly cut flowers
  • A hot glue gun

Wrap the wire three times around your head and cut it to get the crown part. I used gold washi tape to keep the 3 layers of wire together, but you could also use smaller pieces of wire to tie them together.

Take section of the fake leaves and tie it to the crown with an inch or two of cut wire.  Cover as much of the crown with leaves as you'd like; I did half the crown, but you can do the whole thing or even a smaller section.

Hot glue the flowers to thicker parts of the leaves. I used real flowers so I could trade them out depending on the occasion, and because I like the look of real flower crowns more. However, you could also use silk flowers.

Make sure the flowers are glued in a straight line so that when you wear your crown, the flowers all point the same way. Fill in any gaps between flowers with more flowers.

Voila! You now have a flower crown! If you use real flowers, make the crown the day you plan to wear it so the flowers don't go bad (I learned that the hard way).
